Drivers Education
I have been delayed in sending any information out about a new program we are bring to campus, but as we finalize details, we will have a chance for our students to take drivers education at the high school for free(we do not cover cost of permit at DMV). We have been awarded a grant that enables us to bring AOK driving school into the high school to teach the program. All instruction including driving portion will be done at or from Merkel High School.
The plan roughly will be to have instruction starting January. The goal is to have classes starting at 6 pm on most weekdays excluding Tuesday. We would also have classes on Friday morning. We are strategically scheduling classes in order to minimize conflicts with students extracurriculars. This has been the delay in sending out information is to provide an accurate time of when all classes are. When I get an exact schedule I will send this information out. The driving portion of the class will start late January over a few months on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.
Any Merkel High school student can take the course as long as the following requirements are in place: 15 years or older at the start of the class, valid birth certificate, and valid social security card.
Students are responsible to attend all classes as best as possible. If a student drops the class after starting, they will owe a fee. This is due to the grant we received is based off of the number of students completing the program.
Please look for more information at a later date. There will be two forms to complete and they will be sent when everything has been finalized.
We should have the availability each year to provide this service to our students. Spots will be limited each year, but we will strive to maximize the most amount that we can offer it to each year.
